You could probably add this info on the website as well: https://github.com/adplug/adplug.github.io/blob/master/_library_formats/ExtraSimpleMusic.html

Alright, I will open a PR there as well. |

Should I just remove the text that's already there? It probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense in the context of the website as it looks like a quote from an email, without any context. |

Maybe try to reach out to "Davey W. Taylor" ? |
|
Any searches related to his name return to AdPlug, OpenMPT, my website
(I'm probably one of the few users of his tracker that openly admits it
😁) or the various QBasic archives that have his work. He seems to have
disappeared from his internet after ceasing his activity in the QBasic
community.

Seems like that's him :) https://www.dsprototyp.se/

FMTRACK.BAS does contain a swedish ISP provided URL and email, so he is likely swede :-) |

Yeah, I'm fully aware, after all I essentially breathed FM Tracker and its source code for a long time during the earliest days of tracking career. :) I did a few more checks that confirmed that he's the same person but I won't go into detail here. Anyway - can we get this small addition merged? |
Davey W. Taylor's FM Tracker was the first tracker I used, so I got a bit curious about this other AdLib format of his. Unfortunately, these days all information on this format that can be obtained from present-day search engines points back to AdPlug and software using AdPlug (Davey's website is long gone and it was never archived by archive.org), so I had to do some sleuthing on the famous ABC archive (All BASIC Code, a huge library of BASIC code shared mostly throughout the 90s), and indeed I found an FM-related package by Davey in there (FMLIB). It is the source of the four (and only) XSM files that can be found on ModLand and various other places, and includes the original playback routines (written in BASIC, of course).
I doubt any other XSM files exist because there is no authoring software for them (Davey's FM Tracker uses a structurally similar but incompatible format).
So, since AdPlug seems to be the only place left on the internet that contains indexable information about this format, I'd be happy if these tidbits could be included in the source.
